Messenger Kids

As the 2nd content strategist on the team, I was responsible for driving privacy experiences for both parents and youth. I led the team’s first-ever content sprint with 20 cross-functional partners to define our unique voice and tone. I also created an ontology and terms playbook for the app that informed our content standards.

Missions

Goal: Craft content for missions, educational onboarding experiences that teach kids how to use various features within the app.

Approach: Partnered with UX research to conduct studies to assess comprehension and content clarity. This demonstrated the differences between writing for youth and adults. For youth, simplicity is key; for adults, taking a reassuring and informative approach is more important.

Prompts

Goal: Develop a repository of prompts that would dynamically update daily.

Approach: Partnered with UX research and industry experts to ensure that these prompts would encourage youth development and teach digital citizenship.

Parental Controls

Goal: Develop content for parent presence opt-out flows.

Approach: For this dialog specifically, it was important to clarify the term “Online Status” since parents needed to understand that they would be controlling this setting for their child.

Separately, I partnered with our terminologist to create an ontology for the app, which involved auditing all terms and identifying inconsistencies, redundancies, and ambiguity. This ultimately informed our voice & tone, content standards, and style guide.
